Timothy Steffek is a Senior Policy Advisor with the American Petroleum Institute (API). There, he is responsible for Emergency Preparedness and Response policy, research, and communications for all hazards, but focuses on oil spill response. Since joining API in 2017 he has worked on environmental issues including Per- and Poly-Fluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), hazardous waste management, and groundwater remediation. Prior to his time at API, Mr. Steffek spent 8 years with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement’s (BSEE) Oil Spill Preparedness Division’s Response Research Branch where he focused on chemical response options and regulatory support. Mr. Steffek is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering and The George Washington University with an M.S. in Engineering Management/Systems Engineering.
