Skancke, Jørgen

Jørgen has worked within the field of marine pollution at SINTEF for over 12 years. His background is a master’s degree in applied mathematics and a PhD in computational biology and bioinformatics. After his PhD, he joined SINTEF to start a career within marine pollution research, working on improving the numerical models OSCAR and DREAM which are used world-wide to simulate spills in the ocean.

On the scientific side, he has been an author on 16 papers published in peer reviewed journals and has written more than 20 reports within the marine pollution domain. Day to day, Jørgen leads the software team that develops and maintains the OSCAR, DREAM and OWM models and manages research and development projects for national and international industry and governments. He is motivated by building better numerical models that can be used for risk assessment of human industrial activity in the marine environment.
