Read, Scott

Scott joined Maritime New Zealand in 2002. He is currently the Manager of Maritime Incident Response Technical Operations based in their Maritime Response team in Auckland. He is responsible for the management and delivery of Maritime New Zealand’s oil spill response contracts and oil spill equipment capability.

Scott began his career in the oil and gas industry as a maintenance engineer at the Fawley refinery in UK before joining Oil Spill Response Limited at their Southampton base in 1996 where he worked for six years involved in responses and training at locations throughout the world.

Since moving to New Zealand Scott has responded globally to a significant number of maritime casualties and spill responses including Pasha Bulker, Montara well blowout, MV Rena,  Macondo / Deep Water horizon, Pacific Adventurer and Solomon Trader and most recently led New Zealand’s response team deployed to Samoa following the sinking of HMNZS Manawanui.

Outside of response Scott is involved in developing New Zealand’s preparedness capabilities and is a regular delegate at the International Maritime Organisation
