Monsalve, Liliana

Liliana Monsalve joined the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds) as Head of the Claims Department in 2014 and became Deputy Director in 2022. Before joining the IOPC Funds, Mrs Monsalve had worked in the maritime sector with P&I Clubs (the Britannia Club and the West of England Club) for almost 25 years.

Mrs Monsalve graduated as a lawyer from the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia. She then moved to London where she started working for the West of England Club in the department dealing with the Americas, in which her work focused mainly on claims by shipowners from the Latin American region. From early on, Mrs Monsalve handled a wide range of claims. Some years later, Mrs Monsalve started working with the Britannia Club in the department dealing with Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American shipowners where she became an Associate Director.

Upon taking on these new responsibilities, Mrs Monsalve decided to pursue further studies and qualified as a lawyer in Spain and as a solicitor in the United Kingdom. In 2004, due to her interest in the different ways countries engage with one another, she also obtained a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Birkbeck College, University of London.
