Stuart is a marine ecologist with over 25 years’ experience in marine and coastal research, management planning, impact assessment and mitigation.

He completed his PhD in Egypt investigating the impact of ship groundings on coral reefs of the Red Sea, working closely with the national park rangers, sharing knowledge and experiences with the local land custodians.

Throughout his professional career he has worked extensively with first nations people in Australia trying to incorporate indigenous knowledge into western science, conservation practices and management methods.

Stuart is Manager – Spill Response Science with the Australian Marine Oil Spill Centre which includes the implementation of AMOSC’s cultural awareness plan and indigenous engagement.

In collaboration with government agencies and member companies he is realising the potential sea country ranger groups to form a pivotal component of oil spill response in Australia.

Stuart is based in Perth, Western Australia where you can find him on, in or adjacent to the ocean as often as possible to prevent his gills from drying out.
