Chapman, Neil

Neil joined the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) in 2003 and transferred to the Counter Pollution and Salvage branch in 2008. As the Environmental Scientist Lead his responsibilities are primarily to ensure timely response to marine oil spills in UK waters, and to provide technical and scientific advice for dealing with marine pollution in general. As part of the Counter Pollution branch he has experience of working on a number of significant incidents, including the recent allision incident involving the SOLONG and STENA IMMACULATE. He is responsible for contributing to the UK National Contingency Plan, the UK arrangements for environmental advice, and provision of training to Local Authorities and other government agencies on dealing with marine pollution incidents. He works closely with other government agencies to support maritime incident response, key to this are the UK Standing Environment Groups.
