Britton, Lee

Lee has worked in the environmental industry for over a decade across British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Southeastern United States. During his undergraduate studies, he gained hands-on experience in environmental response as a laborer during local oil spills. Building on this experience and seeking to deepen his expertise, he obtained an M.Sc. at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, where he investigated oil and sediment interactions. He is now completing a Ph.D. in Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, with his research focusing on the conditions under which oil-bound sediments can sink and contaminate the nearshore environment.

As an Emergencies Scientist for the Government of Canada, Lee provides scientific support to incident management teams during environmental emergencies, serving as a liaison between federal scientists, provincial agencies and Indigenous groups. Beyond emergency response, he contributes to policy development, co-authors scientific literature, advises on research initiatives and collaborates with other departments to advance oil spill science and response strategies.

Committed to continuous learning and leadership development, Lee strives to enhance his contributions to his team and the broader oil spill scientific and operational communities.
