Dr Conor Bolas joined ITOPF in April 2019, where he is part of the Africa, Europe and Middle East team. He holds an MChem in Chemistry and a PhD in Atmospheric and Analytical Chemistry.
Conor has attended various incidents in South America, Asia, Pacific and Europe including the WAKASHIO incident in 2020 and the X-PRESS PEARL case in 2021. Prior to joining ITOPF, his doctorate at the University of Cambridge investigated naturally emitted trace gases in the atmosphere and the development of robust field instruments. Conor has previous experience of research projects in remediating groundwater contaminated with radioactive ions, anti-corrosion coatings and synthetic pharmaceutical chemistry in industrial laboratories. His research positions have included fieldwork in remote and fragile ecosystems in Southeast Asia and the British Isles.
Conor co-leads the ITOPF's internal working group on nuclear in shipping and is also a member of the HNS and the Risk Management Working Groups.
