Interspill 2022 – A Successful Day One

Day One at Interspill went well and the hum of discourse was everywhere as friends caught up with overseas colleagues they had not seen during our COVID years!
Attendance numbers were higher than expected, the exhibitors were delighted with the quality of the visitors and the keynotes rose to the significance of meeting face to face again with the hope that together we can rise to the challenges to the environment we face!
The opening keynotes set the tone for the work to be done during the event, challenges to face but optimism that together we have the knowledge, focus and ability and willingness to solve them.
The three keynotes opened the event with optimism for the future if we collaborate.
Today is a very busy day at Interspill.
There is a theme of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) running through the day with the opening event being a special plenary session by Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton. Dr Cohen is a senior officer in the Fire and Rescue Service but also a researcher on teams and individuals working under pressure.
She will also attend and speak at the DEI lunch and workshop that takes place from 1230 – 1430.
In between these events, the Premiam Conference at Interspill is held; three sessions that discuss how we can protect our oceans and enhance its wellbeing:
- Developments & innovation in Post-spill Environmental Monitoring
- Emerging Issues – implications for monitoring and impacts
- Post Spill Monitoring – The International Context
The Technical Conference has six sessions focussing today on:
- Incident Management
- Outreach and Communication
- Subsea Response
- Shipping Risks
- Dispersants
- Inland Response
The Science Workshops in the Seminar Theatre hosted by Cedre and ITOPF focus on:
- Atmospheric pollution from chemical slicks (CEDRE)
- The issue of plastic pollution (ITOPF)
The Innovation Workshops will have four presentations that will cover:
1430 – Orbital EOS – Find and measure oil spills at Sea, quickly and accurately
1500 – DESMI – DESMI high speed oil containment & unique recovery systems
1530 – Vikoma – Single ship containment and recovery sweeping system
1600 – Lamor//Harbo – Rapid Spill Response by Lamor- HARBO Boom
It is a very busy day at Interspill with attendance expected to be high and an exciting day ahead.
