Interspill 2015, the European oil spill conference and exhibition

Interspill 2015, the European oil spill conference and exhibition, took place at the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam, over 3 days from 24-26 March 2015. The event saw over 1250 delegates, visitors and exhibitors attend, from 75 countries, making it the most successful event so far in the series since Interspill started in 2000.

The conference attracted 485 conference delegates and speakers, who were joined by over 500 visitors and over 100 exhibiting companies.

The Conference was opened by Professor Wierd Koops, Chairman of Spill Response Group Holland, host to Interspill 2015, who was joined in the Opening Plenary by Brian Sullivan, Executive Director of IPIECA, Robert Limb, Chief Executive of OSRL, and Richard Johnson, Technical Director of ITOPF.

Rob Cox, the Chairman of the Interspill Steering Committee, said that "the continuing success of Interspill 2015 reinforced awareness that spill prevention and response remains a high priority, with the many initiatives set up after the 2009/10 offshore incidents now starting to deliver results."

The Conference was expanded over 2012 with more than 70 speakers and ended with a closing Plenary Workshop discussing "Regulating Oil Spill Preparedness and Response". This workshop included a recent initiative from the International Offshore Petroleum Environmental Regulators Forum (IOPER) to harmonise global regulation of E&P activities.

The Exhibition was over 20% bigger than in 2012, and with Science Workshops and Spill Industry Seminars held on the Exhibition floor, contributed significantly to the success of the event.

The next Interspill event will be held in March 2018, at Excel in London. Proceedings of the Conference, Workshops and Seminars will be published shortly on the Interspill website .

The scope of the event reflects the strength and breadth of the organising Committees, which included the European Spill industry trade organisations, the European Maritime Safety Agency, (EMSA), the International Petroleum Industry Environment & Conservation Association, (IPIECA), and Oil Spill Response Ltd., with support from the International Maritime Organization, (IMO), International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds, (IOPC), the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF) and France's Centre of Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (CEDRE).

Interspill is controlled by the European Spill industry associations, from Norway, NOSCA, from France, SYCOPOL, and UKSpill, together with EMSA and IPIECA and Oil Spill Response Ltd.
